Professional rights 

Graduates of the Department of Molecular Biology & Genetics are professionally involved in every subject related to the origin, function and evolution of living organisms and all forms of life in general, the environment, abiotic factors related to life, and the applications of the above.

The professional rights of graduates of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics were guaranteed in 2009 with the Government Gazette A199/1.10.2009, Presidential Decree 158

Graduates of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics are professionally active in the following, indicatively mentioned areas:
In education, in public and private educational institutions of all levels, teaching biology and genetics as well as any other subject related to the life sciences, in accordance with the provisions in force at any time.
In research fields on any subject that falls within the broader field of life sciences and which either has a purely theoretical – scientific direction, not linked to commercial purposes, or is intended for industrial application and is carried out on the initiative and with funding from public or private bodies, in research centers, institutes, foundations and laboratories that belong to the public or to private individuals, as well as in competent directorates, sub-directorates or departments of national, European or international organizations and private enterprises.
In the public and private sector, in health services (hospitals, prefectures or other services) and in state services such as the Unified Food Control Body (EFET), health services or other units, in diagnostic laboratories and companies in accordance with the provisions in force at any time.
Also, with the Government Gazette 4138B/20.09.2018, the new medical specialty of Laboratory Genetics was established. With the implementation of this law, it will be possible to obtain the specialty of Laboratory Genetics as follows:
For graduates of the Department of Molecular Biology & Genetics who are already working, it became possible to acquire the specialty using transitional provisions, which are mentioned in Government Gazette 2661B/01.07.2019 and mainly – after corrections – in the more favorable provisions listed in Government Gazette 3065B/31.07.2019 and 3164B/12.08.2019.
Our graduates who do not meet the criteria of the above provisions and do not belong to the previous category, will be able to acquire the specialty, after 5 years of specialization – education, similar to medical specialties, as described in Government Gazette 1355B/19.04.2019 and in the corrections of Government Gazette 2331B/14.06.2019.
