The academic year begins on 1st September and ends on 31st August of the following year. The educational work of each academic year is structured into two teaching periods, the academic semesters (winter and spring), in which the compulsory and elective educational activities of the study programs are distributed. Each academic semester includes the teaching period (teaching semester) and the examination period. Each teaching semester includes at least thirteen (13) full weeks of teaching in accordance with the academic calendar for the start and end of semesters, which is determined by a decision of the Senate each March and which specifies:
- the start and end dates of the winter and spring semester courses,
- the start and end dates for the winter and spring semester exam periods, as well as the September repeat exam period,
- the Christmas and Easter holiday periods, and
- all other holidays (national holidays, local holidays, etc.).
By decision of the Senate, following a reasoned recommendation by the Departmental Assembly, the academic calendar may be amended if educational activities were not carried out for reasons of force majeure.
