The Equal Access Unit of the Democritus University of Thrace (EAU-DUTH) is aimed at students with disabilities and/or other special educational needs, offering targeted services to improve accessibility to the educational process, strengthen skills for personal development, provide personalized academic support and enhance equal participation in all activities and actions of the University and wider community.
Vision & Goals of EAU:
The vision of EAU is to create an inclusive academic environment.
The EAU aims to:
- Ensure equal access to academic study for students with different abilities and requirements
- Allow all students to have equal, unrestricted participation in the life of the University Community and in all activities that take place within the framework of their studies.
Services Provided by Qualified Personnel
- Psychosocial Guidance: Provision of advisory support by specialized psychologists and social workers.
- Transportation/Mobility Service: Ensuring free transportation of students with mobility and other issues from their homes to the University.
- Digital Accessibility: Technical support and software that convert educational material into accessible formats, such as DAISY and EPUB.
- Support in the Educational Process: Measures and practices aimed at facilitating the participation of all students, regardless of disabilities or learning difficulties
- Accessible Textbooks/Assistive Technologies: Provision of electronic books, screen readers, magnifiers and text-to-speech software.
- Education/Training: Educational seminars for students on equal access practices, events to raise student awareness.
The EAU is addressed to all undergraduate and postgraduate students with disabilities and Special Educational Needs of the ΤΗ and its services are offered free of charge.
