The aim of the DUTH is to ensure and continuously improve the quality of its educational and research work, as well as the effective operation and performance of its services, in accordance with international practices, in particular those of the European Higher Education Area and the principles and guidelines of the ΗΑΗΕ.

The evaluation of teaching is carried out in accordance with Procedure D-5.6 of the university’s Internal Quality AssuranceSystem (IQAS), by collecting and analyzing evaluation data and evaluating the results, on a semester basis. The results of the evaluation are very important for the monitoring and continuous improvement of the educational work of each individual teacher and of each Study Program. Through the evaluation of teaching, the opinion of students is taken into consideration for the modification/ improving courses and, by extension, programmes of study by the respective committees of the academic units, while at the same time identifying any shortcomings in the program or weaknesses in the teaching staff. In addition, the evaluation of teaching is taken into account both in the internal evaluation of the Study Programs and in their External Evaluation and Certification.

The evaluation of teaching performance takes place between the 8th and 11th week of classes, from the start of the academic semester. The time frame for the start and end of the evaluations is set by the respective Department, while the steps of the process are described in detail in the corresponding procedure (Procedure 5.6) of the Internal Quality Assurance System of the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) of DUTh (QAU, 2024).

Throughout the evaluation of the teaching work, the results of the evaluation are not visible to the teachers and only the QAU-DUTh has access to them. After the end of the examination period and once the Department Secretariats have completed the entry of grades and QAU-DUTh has been informed accordingly, each teacher has access to the results of the evaluations of the courses they teach or participate in teaching in the form of the Mean Value and Standard Deviation of the students’ responses.

Each instructor has access to the detailed results of the evaluation of their teaching by students, where they can see all the details at the level of evaluation of the course they teach, such as the number of students who participated in the evaluation, the score for each question, as well as comments where available, etc.

The Internal Evaluation Team (IET) studies the evaluation data for courses and instructors and discusses it with the Department Administration in order to take action to ensure the quality of teaching. At the beginning of the academic year, the ITE presents a summary of the previous year’s student evaluations to the Assembly. At the same time, the ITE provides data from the course evaluation to the Department’s General Assembly for possible proposals to reform the Undergratuate Programme of Study. Once a year, the Departmental Teaching and Research Committee organizes a presentation and discussion with student representatives on the results of the evaluation. Proposals from the student group on the curriculum, the content, and the nature of the courses taught are recorded.
