Goals of the course
The objectives of the course are:
1. To familiarize students with a structural perspective of Molecular Biology.
2. To acquire knowledge about the achievements of modern Structural Biology studying the structural basis of selected biological systems and mechanisms as for example (i) transcription factors: recognition and binding to DNA, (ii) structural principles of immune response.
3. Use of modern molecular visualization programs for in depth study of protein and nucleoprotein structure.
Learning outcomes
After the successful completion of the course, the students will acquire the following knowledge, skills and competencies:
· Understand advanced principles of Structural Biology
· Understand special features of protein architecture
· Be able to analyze problems and answers questions of Molecular Biology based on the structural elements of the systems under consideration
· Be able to seek and understand the atomic/molecular basis of biological mechanisms such as pathogenicity, diseases, metabolic pathways, signal transduction, secretion etc
Be able to use modern programs of molecular visualization
