Goals of the course
After the successful completion of the course, the students are expected to acquire:
- Basic knowledge of protein folding in secondary structural elements and motifs and to understand the 3-dimensional architecture of biological macromolecules at the tertiary and quaternary structural levels.
- Basic knowledge of how the biological macromolecules have been categorized into families, superfamilies and data bases based on structural characteristics and properties.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of structure-function relationship in proteins.
- Familiarization with molecular structure protein models and molecular graphics programs.
Learning outcomes
After the successful completion of the course, the students can:
- Understand the fundamental principles of Structural Biology
- Understand the fundamental elements of molecular architecture and topology of biological macromolecules
- Understand the structure-function relationship
- Examine and study molecular models of protein structures using molecular graphics software
